Summary

As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants。 But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies。 Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution。 And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life。 He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within。

A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals。 To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth。 Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people。

He must live for more。

darrow is a deeply uninteresting main character and there continues to be a scarcity of compelling female characters (this entry in the series adds 3 that i remember, but 2 are fairly flat enemies), but the plot is fun and honestly i just like reading complicated future jargon-y flashy spaceship battles, okay?

"Golden Son" was a wild ride。 I had to pay attention to shifting alliances。 It required reading "Red Rising" to appreciate the nuances。 There was family, love, war, and a lot of politics。 It is worth a second read。I am off to read the sequel, "Morning Star。" "Golden Son" was a wild ride。 I had to pay attention to shifting alliances。 It required reading "Red Rising" to appreciate the nuances。 There was family, love, war, and a lot of politics。 It is worth a second read。I am off to read the sequel, "Morning Star。" 。。。more

Pierce Brown is fucking insane holy shit

Brown continues his knack for incredible, heart wrenching, brutal storytelling in this sequel。 This series truly is an epic, and I absolutely cannot wait to continue with the third book as soon as possible。

Not much to say except this was my favorite of the three。 I absolutely adored this book。 What I loved-sevro and Darrow’s friendship in this book was EVERYTHING。 (view spoiler)[ when Darrow hugs him and cries after their big talk I was so happy inside。 (hide spoiler)] (view spoiler)[ -my favorite part was victra with her dying breath telling Darrow she was loyal。 (hide spoiler)] -As with the first book I really enjoyed the Mustang moments。 (view spoiler)[ and I loved that for once the main love Not much to say except this was my favorite of the three。 I absolutely adored this book。 What I loved-sevro and Darrow’s friendship in this book was EVERYTHING。 (view spoiler)[ when Darrow hugs him and cries after their big talk I was so happy inside。 (hide spoiler)] (view spoiler)[ -my favorite part was victra with her dying breath telling Darrow she was loyal。 (hide spoiler)] -As with the first book I really enjoyed the Mustang moments。 (view spoiler)[ and I loved that for once the main love interest doesn’t find out about secrets from others but from the main character telling them。 this felt very mature to me。 (hide spoiler)] -How Darrow navigates the gold world and brings about change/war。 He was such a powerful person capable of inspiring others to action and reading about his leadership and how he makes things happen by understandings peoples desires were the best parts of all the books。 What could have been better-I wanted a bit more from Lorn。 I mean he keeps being brought up, both in book one and this one and then when he’s present it just felt a bit meh。 (view spoiler)[ -Roque pissed the fuck out of me from page 1。 Just I couldn’t with him… (hide spoiler)] POV: first person single POV Story type: dystopian sci fi Characters: 4。5/5Plot: 4。5/5Enjoyment: 4。5/5Writing style: 4。5/5Depth: 5/5Humor: 4/5Story ending: 4。5/5 。。。more

HOLY。 CRAP。 This book even better than the first!!! 💥 I didn’t think I would like this one as much as the first because it’s way more sci-if oriented, but I loved it。 It seriously felt like every chapter had action that made my jaw DROP。 Seriously, the twists are never ending and always unexpected。 It may have taken a while for me to get through this book, but it never felt boring。 It wasn’t a struggle at all, I just leisurely read through it。 💥Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

OMFG!I'm not okay。 Nope。That ending!!?!?? Bloodydamn brilliant and at the same time a fantastic example of how to be cruel to your readers。Like Red Rising, this book is f***** amazing! There's plot twists after plotwists but all perfectly timed, you don't see anything coming until it blasts you in the face, and then you jump, scream and ask the universe why。。。just why, no more than that needed。Everything that happens in this book has a reason, it isn't dull nor "page filling", it's storytelling a OMFG!I'm not okay。 Nope。That ending!!?!?? This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Spoilers。 I AM NOT OKAY EMOTIONALLY。 I sat in my car and listened to the last 45 before going to work I was that absorbed。 1。 Thank god I have more in the series to read2。 I had such high hopes for Vitra。 I was probably hurt most by her death3。 Obviously Darrows friends will save him。 The question is does he become Ares? 4。 Mustang is going to back him。 She has no choice now。 But does she pull a Roque5。 I saw Roques betrayal coming。 What I didn’t see was Fitchners death the way it was。 I AM STOK Spoilers。 I AM NOT OKAY EMOTIONALLY。 I sat in my car and listened to the last 45 before going to work I was that absorbed。 1。 Thank god I have more in the series to read2。 I had such high hopes for Vitra。 I was probably hurt most by her death3。 Obviously Darrows friends will save him。 The question is does he become Ares? 4。 Mustang is going to back him。 She has no choice now。 But does she pull a Roque5。 I saw Roques betrayal coming。 What I didn’t see was Fitchners death the way it was。 I AM STOKED TO CONTINUE THIS EMOTIONAL SHIT SHOW 。。。more

DNF。 I'm glad other people love these books, and I want to like them because I think the story is interesting, but in execution I find them much too tedious。 I kinda liked the first and hoped I'd get more into the second one but nope。 DNF。 I'm glad other people love these books, and I want to like them because I think the story is interesting, but in execution I find them much too tedious。 I kinda liked the first and hoped I'd get more into the second one but nope。 。。。more

CAWPILE=8。43I really enjoyed this book。 Fast paced for most of the book。 Very much enjoyed the plot。 There is one specific plot point I have been waiting for for a while and it did finally appear right at the end。 Even though I knew it was coming I still enjoyed the book。 The characters continue to be very well developed。 Lots of intrigue in this book as well。

The second installment of this series was not as entertaining as the first… at first。 There is a time skip between the end of the last book and the beginning of this one, which threw me off a bit (especially since it had been over a year since I had read the first one)。 The story takes place in the distant future when colonization of other planets has led to a dystopian society in which races are distinguished by colors and roles。 A young man from the most disenfranchised of these is disguised a The second installment of this series was not as entertaining as the first… at first。 There is a time skip between the end of the last book and the beginning of this one, which threw me off a bit (especially since it had been over a year since I had read the first one)。 The story takes place in the distant future when colonization of other planets has led to a dystopian society in which races are distinguished by colors and roles。 A young man from the most disenfranchised of these is disguised as one of the most powerful, and with the help of his misfit friends and political allies, he seeks to cause a civil war。 The first half of the book, though it did have some action sequences, felt more political and less emotionally engaging。 By midway through I got into the flow of the different relationships, and I actually really enjoyed the last quarter。 There were some intriguing twists and turns, but you have to be following closely to keep up。 。。。more
